The Coach House

The Old Coach House is a beautiful and much loved holiday home. In fact, it’s a home from home! Stunning views with an abundance of wildlife. Every room was furnished to a very high standard and with wonderful antique furniture. Plenty of wood to make a fire which added to the ambiance of the house. Amazingly comfortable beds, pillows and duvet’s which ensured a good night’s sleep. So important after a long day walking along Hadrians Wall. The kitchen was very well equipped with everything that you needed. All spotless and clean. Plenty of room for your own things and the bonus of an awesome utility room. The hosts, Anne and Bill were lovely and the welcome food package was a real treat. Anne was always there if you needed anything and gave lots of advice on things to do and places to visit. The Pheasant Inn at Stannesburn (5 minutes up the road) is a must for a fabulous meal. We couldn’t fault anything here and highly recommend The Old Coach House for a great family holiday.

We had a wonderful stay at the Coach House it was spotlessly clean and beautifully decorated and furnished. It was obvious that much thought had gone into the creation of this lovely place to stay. It exudes elegance and comfort. There was a lovely welcome pack, which really helpfully had essentials of milk, tea, coffee and wine ! The large garden was wonderful for relaxing and perfect for our dog to race around! It is close to a road which can be busy at times but the delights of the property far outweighed this. Being a Dark Sky area meant we had some fabulous star gazing and appreciated the sounds of owls and night animals. While you do need to walk on the road to join a footpath, the road has good visibility and mostly wide verges. You can also access the river directly onto a private stretch through the wood opposite and down the bank. The host’s welcome was second to none. It feels like Anne takes pleasure in your enjoyment of the Coach House and any issue however minor was sorted immediately. We loved our stay, would definitely stay again and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to others.

  • Mr George Potts - June 2023

  • Mrs Linda Irwin - May 2023

Had a lovely relaxing stay at this property The owners are very welcoming and helpful The coach house is very spacious and our grandchildren loved the large enclosed garden . Ideal for visiting Keilder and the surrounding countryside. Bird of prey Centre at Keilder was amazing, well worth a trip. Would recommend the Cheviot and the Fountain cottage cafe in Bellingham. Charming house, everything you could need and very comfortable. Beautiful area, lovely and quiet, access to lots of nice places. Great place to stay.

  • Mr Jack Edis - April 2023

Extremely high quality premises, very well-equipped and furnished to a high standard. Received a very warm welcome from the property owners who live adjacent. Good central location with easy access (with sat-nav) to Roman forts/museums, castles and the coast eg Lindisfarne. Set in the rolling hills of Northumberland, an area not sufficient known about.

  • Mrs Julie Crompton - February 2023

Had a wonderful stay at this delightful property . It was spacious , immaculately clean and had everything we needed , a real home from home ! It is a credit to the owners who obviously take pride in making it the perfect holiday accommodation . The home made lemon drizzle cake and bottle of wine on our arrival was a lovely touch too ! The area is in a beautiful countryside setting but within easy reach of amenities and places to visit . Would highly recommend and cannot wait to go back at some point in the future . Thankyou again for making our stay comfortable and enjoyable !

  • Mrs Charlotte Jones - February 2023

A fantastic property, excellent garden, lovely decor and a relaxing atmosphere. This is our second visit and I am sure we will be back again.

  • Ms Marie Logan - January 2023

A gorgeous house, big rooms lovely decor, and a huge walled garden our Border terrier was in heaven. Perfect location for all the major Roman sights, but also just for a night in enjoying the log fire.

  • Mrs Jayne Moxon - November 2022

Our family & our 2 dogs enjoyed a week at the Coach House in November. A lovely cosy break. The house is beautiful, warm & spotlessly clean. The setting is stunning with a safe walled garden for the dogs to play, all set in the beautiful Northumberland national park. Close to facilities in Bellingham & near to all the many visitor sites. Hosts are friendly & the welcome pack was a nice touch. Would definitely recommend a stay here & i’m sure we will return.

  • Mrs Kimberley Hunt - November 2022

Gorgeous property and owners were amazing. We had a great time. Owners left us a lemon cake and a bottle of wine and were on hand for any issues at all. As we left our car battery was flat and they were amazingly helpful. They drove to their neighbours to get us some jump leads and helped us start the car! They couldn't have been more helpful! Tha k you so much. Would highly recommend.

  • Mrs Carole Bennett - October 2022

This is the second time we have stayed in this beautiful house. It has absolutely everything you could need. Very clean and beautifully furnished. The area is great for walking and cycling. Will definitely return.

  • Mr Julian Dorward - October 2022

Very friendly greeting from Bill & Ann the owners who live on site. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble. Lovely welcome pack of a home made cake, bottle of wine and a good selection of teas/coffees. The Coach House itself is an impressive building, lovingly restored to a very high level of both comfort and finish. A wonderful weekend break and would highly recommend the property

  • Mrs Lesley Groves - October 2022

This well presented Coach House is truly deserving of its five star rating. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this beautiful, comfortable property. The area was new to us but Anne and Bill provided us with information which we used to plan our outings. After a long day out, we really appreciated the log fire and so did our two dogs. There is so much we did not have time to see and do that we know we will be back!

  • Mrs Alex Bailey - July 2022

We loved staying in this stunning area. As hoped, we were able to walk a section of Hadrian’s wall, cycle at Kielder, visit Vindolanda, Hexham and Alnwick, and go to the coast. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped. The garden is lovely too and a longer stay would have allowed us to make more use of it. We were grateful for the detailed notes provided.

  • Mrs C Argent - July 2022

Beautiful property, so much room and the garden is fantastic and very large. A very comfortable stay.

  • Mr Brian White - May 2022

  • Mrs J Batstone - May 2022

Set in a fabulous walled garden and with amazing views of surrounding countryside, we couldn’t have asked for a nicer holiday venue. The Coach House is so warm and welcoming with all the facilities one could hope for. The lounge has big comfy sofas and a wood-burning stove. The dining room is a delight and gives access to the garden. The kitchen/diner is fully provided with all services incl a range cooker. The utility room is fabulous with a washer, dryer, lovely old fashioned airier. The downstairs shower room/wc and the upstairs bathroom (with shower over the bath) are ideal. Our hostess was very welcoming and kindly shared the Dark Skies viewing platform in the Rectory garden. We had two great clear nights for observations and photography. We also found it a great base for days out at Kielder, Rothbury and the Woodhorn Colliery museum. Highly recommended!

  • Mr & Mrs Elliot - April 2022

The Coach House is a fantastic property with a very welcoming owner. Great facilities and the most comfy bed I’ve ever slept in! Had some great days out at Alnwick Castle, Hexham, Corbridge and Wellington National Trust is definitely worth a visit.

  • Mrs Sharkey - April 2022

Gorgeous cottage. A real home from home with a massive garden for children and dogs. The hosts were super helpful and friendly.

  • Miss West - April 2022

A beautiful home in extensive grounds, with the most wonderful kindly host - Anne is usually based on site should you need her, otherwise there is utter privacy and tranquility. Thank you for a truly glorious get-away-from-it-all.

  • Mr Walton - March 2022

We have had a wonderful week in this idyllic Northumbrian setting. The Coach House is probably the most luxurious, cosy and well equipped cottage we have stayed in and is a credit to the very friendly, helpful and welcoming owners. We couldn’t fault anything. There is plenty to see and do in the surrounding area and on the clear nights we had during our stay the stargazing was absolutely mesmerising especially with the resident owls hooting in the background! We would thoroughly recommend the Coach House to anyone who wants to visit this fabulous part of Britain.

  • Mr Sadler - January 2022

This is a very special property with charming hosts. It is extremely well appointed and managed and part of a beautiful group of buildings, including the former Church and Rectory, in a lovely location close to Kielder and Bellingham.

  • Mrs F Holliday - May 2021

We had a wonderful week. The Coach House is a peaceful retreat. We love the view and enjoyed lots of walks in Kielder and the local area. Thank you for your kind welcome with lots of goodies, and a memorable holiday in a beautiful house.

  • Mr Norris - March 2020

Wow what a fantastic property! The cottage was ideal to get away from all the current stress. The owners have really thought of everything. The bed was massive & very comfortable. The decor & furnishing is of a high standard. The garden was perfect for our dog. We will definitely be back, thank you

  • Mrs Peace - December 2019

Well equipped, tastefully presented and spacious. It was very comfortable and warm. The owners were very welcoming and helpful during our stay. We enjoyed exploring the local area which provided plenty of interest.

  • Mrs Harrison - September 2019

What a welcome to find a superb Lemon Drizzle Cake together with a bottle of wine for our Evening Meal. It was nice to see furniture of the same period as the property. So many properties are renovated & furnished to the Classic Modern Style losing the original character. Everything was spotless and the dark furniture fairly shone. All the rooms were a good size especially the Double Bedrooms. The wardrobe in the Kingsize Bedroom was amazing together with the sideboard in the Dining Room. The weather could have been better but their was plenty of books to read or games to play. The garden was huge and a bonus if you bring a dog or children to be able to play safely.

  • Mrs Clarke - January 2019

Just to say that we have holidayed at The Coach House several times over the years and we have never been disappointed. Great property and great location and very dog friendly. The owners who live in the adjacent house are genuinely lovely hosts.

  • Mr Van Delft - November 2018

The cottage represented one of the best we have ever stayed in. The online information provided all the necessary information, and the follow-up emails informed us about our upcoming holiday and reminded us to make contact with the landlady. The initial contact with the landlady was warm and efficient, and she was present on arrival to show us the cottage and give us all the relevant information to fully enjoy the cottage. The cottage was fully equipped to a high standard leaving us with no recommendations to make it a better experience. We are definitely going back in the near future.

  • Mr Dean - October 2018

    One word EXCELLENT.

  • Mrs Loftus - September 2018

The description of the house was very good along with the pictures, we were not disappointed in our expectations, in fact, the house was better because the furnishings were of very high quality and we felt very privileged to be able to stay in such grandeur. The garden being fully enclosed with a stone wall, was superb with wonderful views of the fells, we saw stunning and varied skies with gorgeous dawn and sunsets. Our hosts were lovely and very welcoming and hospitable, nothing was too much trouble and we were encouraged to pick fruit from the many fruit trees in the garden which made bountiful fruit pies. Kielder Park was a wonderful place to visit to get the best fresh air, the lake looked stunning, the forest walks suitable for buggies and wheelchairs and the Visitor Centre offered a comfortable place to sit whilst enjoying freshly baked cakes with a pot of tea or coffee overlooking the lake. This was first time to this part of the COuntry and will definitely go back as a stargazer, spectacular. The only disappointment was only being there for one week.

  • Ms Lucas - February 2018

A beautiful cottage. Very comfortable rooms and bedrooms. Lovely and warm. Superb location near Kielder Water and Observatory.

  • Mrs Mitchell - May 2018

The owners who live at the property are very welcoming and helpful. They take a great interest in their properties which they are constantly updating and improving. The Coach House is charming and spacious with beautiful extensive grounds and views of the countryside. There is plenty of visitor information with ideas on places to visit and things to do.

  • Mrs Williams, October 2016

The house is fantastic, clean, well stocked, but also relaxing to be in. Near great places to visit and hosted by Mrs Monroe who can not do enough for you, always friendly and welcoming. Fab place to be for a week or two!!

  • MillyMollyMandy - December 2015

We had a fantastic week in this excellent property. Fabulous period features and furniture give the property a luxurious country feel. The house is well equipped and there was nothing that hadn't been thought of. Very clean and high quality fittings made the stay very comfortable. The owners were friendly and helpful and made us feel very welcome and at home. A brilliant base to get away from the world and enjoy the Northumbrian coountryside. A holiday we shall certainly remember.

  • Mrs Rainbow, September 2015

Beautiful property in a lovely location. Warm and well appointed. The quality of the fixtures and fittings was excellent. Stargazing from the garden was amazing and we saw some shooting stars. The owners are delightful and made us feel very welcome. We would certainly visit again.

  • Mrs Roberts, Liverpool, March 2014

The owners were very helpful and friendly, fabulous garden very safe for both children and dogs, we would recommend this beautiful property to anyone looking for peace in a beautiful place but within reach of walks, forests and lakes. You just can't go wrong.

  • Robo68

A fantastic, impressive house beautifully furnished and very well equipped. The secure walled garden was lovely for us and our dog to enjoy. Owners were very welcoming, offering help should it be required and respected our privacy too! A wonderful house in a wonderful part of the world.

This cottage just oozed character. From the comfy lounge with log fire and bureau, the spacious formal dining room complete with suitably chunky furnishings, the scatter rugs and massive king size bed in the main room and the warm and inviting kitchen - this cottage wraps its arms around you from the start! The owners live next door - close enough to call on if you need anything (like local information) but not so close that you feel invaded. I will be back to this lovely part of the country and if this cottage is available I will certainly book it again.

  • Tony, Sheffield, April 2010

We could not fault this cottage. Everything about it from the location to the facilities to the owners exceeded all our expectations. Without doubt we will book this cottage again.

  • Miss Bacon, Hove, February 2012

The cottage was absolutely beautiful, very welcoming and cosy. It really felt like home rather than the usual holiday let. The beds were particularly sumptuous. The owners were also very helpful and friendly. I would recommend The Coach House as a place to stay in Northumberland, and would definitely stay again. Many thanks.

  • Mrs Wootton, Sawbridgeworth, December 2011

Warm welcome by the owners. Immaculate attention to detail throughout the house and general thoughtfulness for what a holiday maker needs in a home-from-home. It was the most enjoyable stay we've ever had in a holiday cottage.

  • Mr Foster, Neston, December 2011

The Coach House was all that it said, and more. We really can't stress how beautiful the house and location, and how helpful and pleasant the owners were. The house was full of charming features, was old world yet with modern facilities. No expense had been spared, from ultra modern shower room and Aga, to antique furniture and numerous paintings. The garden was a delight to behold, perfect for us to enjoy, yet totally enclosed to allow dogs and children to roam unattended. I could go on, but suffice to say that this cottage is perfect, warm, dry and welcoming.

  • Sue, Sussex, December 2009

From the moment we opened the door to this beautiful home to the time we closed it, we felt as though we were at home. The owner of the cottage had ensured it was warm and welcoming and was friendly and non intrusive throughout our stay. My sons who live in Newcastle and Scotland are unable to visit us at our home in Sussex very often and do not spend time together due to work commitments, this lovely house opened its doors to us all and we spent many evenings round the log fire together. Unlike many holiday homes, where it is obvious the owner has filled the rooms with utilitarian furniture and fittings, this lovely coach house had things that 'fitted'it was charming and we fell in love with it. Especially the Queen bed.We took some lovely photos from the kitchen window and now I want to go back.
